Today it is a privately owned ship broking and consultancy company, based in Antwerp since 1992 with affiliated offices in Luxemburg. Throughout its long history, many well known shipping groups and individuals held shares in and were associated with the company. Nordstrom and Tulin, Stockholm, Banchero-Costa, Genoa and Ahlers Group, Antwerp were among the shareholders who contributed to our success and good reputation over the many years of existence. Set up originally as a tanker broker, Sobelnord evolved into a multifunctional broking and consultancy company, with forays into the bitumen (high heat) market and today specialize in dry cargo and related activities in an international environment. Facing the challenges of the globalization and the shift in trade balances in the world Sobelnord joined forces with international renowned brokers Lorentzen&Stemoco of Oslo, (www.lorstem.no) and innovated the concept of an international broking pool using the agency system. LSS. s.a. (Lorentzen&Stemoco&Sobelnord sa, Luxemburg) was created in 2001 and has quickly become one of the reference brokers in the international dry bulk markets. Today LSS serves an international client base 24 hours around the globe through it’s network of agencies and sub-agencies based in Luxemburg, Geneva, Oslo, Singapore, Shanghai and Antwerp; LSS s.a. took over the seat of Sobelnord on the panel of the BCI (Baltic Capesize Index) panel, which is each working day providing the global shipping industry with a Freight Index for the derivatives market. Needless to say we have invested in the latest IT - applications to be able to handle an important volume of information and communications with our worldwide client base around the clock We provide our clients with up to date and personalized market analysis and advice. We firmly believe in a combination of hands on approach, traditional personal relationships and the latest information technology. Our offices perhaps illustrate our belief in this combination of old and new, high tech and tradition. Sobelnord n.v. is based in a 100 year old building in the old centre of Antwerp near to the Cathedral and River Scheldt, with the fine hotels and restaurants within walking distance.
