Sobelnord was established by Nordstrom and Thulin in 1969 in Brussels  and today is a privately owned shipbroking company, with an office in Antwerp since 1992.

Throughout it's  33 year history, many well known shipping groups and individuals held shares in the company. Apart from Nordstrom also Banchero-Costa, Genoa, The Ahlers Group of Antwerp and Jacques Saverys were among the shareholders who contributed to our success and good reputation.

Our tanker-department has a long history of serving major clients in the Crude to Product markets.

In 1997, due to the consolidation within the oil-industry, it has shifted it's focus to the niche market of the high heat vessels, in particular bitumen.

Today Sobelnord is the house broker and logistical support agent for a variety of  specialized companies involved in bitumen handling, shipping and trading.

The dry cargo department takes pride in being able to serve a multitude of important customers in the bulkshipping markets from handysize upto Cape size vessels and cargoes.

Sobelnord is a member of the Baltic Capesize Index  Assessment BrokersPanel, which is each working day providing the shipping industry with an Freight Indexfor the derivatives market.

Needless to say we have invested in the latest IT - applications to be able to handle an important volume of information and communications with ourworldwide client base.

We firmly believe in a combination of a hands on approach, traditional personal relationships and new information technology. Our offices perhaps illustrate our belief in this combination of old and new, high tech and the personal touch.

Facing the challenges ahead, Sobelnord  has created, in 2001, a joint venture company together with messrs Lorentzen and Stemoco, Oslo and Socomet, Paris named LSS s.a. .

This novel concept unites the broking skills and resources of  12 Cape and Panamax specialists and covers the market from offices in Paris, Oslo, Singapore, Antwerp and Shanghai.

Sobelnord is based in a 100 year old building in the old center of Antwerp near to the Cathedral and River Scheldt, with the fine hotels and restaurants within walking distance.
